In compliance with
our University’s mission and vision, long term
strategic goal of the Faculty of the Civil
Engineering is to implement engineering education
and training in such a way that our graduates can
successfully compete at international level. Since
1996, efforts towards program and infra structure
development have been carried out to reach this
goal. Among these efforts reviewing and updating the
education programs and curricula for the departments
had been the first priority. All education programs
were reviewed in 1997 and 2003, and as a result of
these reviews, improvements based on international
standards for engineering education have been
implemented to fulfill the following goals:

Some features of
the new system include measuring the student’s
success with a relative goaling systems
opportunities for selecting area of interest through
internal transfer system, giving chance for double
major for successful students, and giving students
the opportunity to compensate lost terms or to
provide possibility of early graduation.
Additionally, the mission and vision of each
department are specially defined.
New education
model, based on the philosophy of Total Quality
System is based on the ABET and similar
international accreditation models. In this model,

40%, give students opportunity to develop themselves
in the direction of personal interests and
capabilities. On the other hand, the other two main
aspects of the model are compulsory foreign language
courses and usage of information technologies.
There are three departments in the Faculty: Civil
Engineering, Geodesy and Photogrametry Engineering,
Environmental Science Engineering. In all three
departments, activities in the areas of education,
research and implementation are being carried out in
